In Solidarity...

...to the most daring and urgently needed political project at this historical juncture in the Philippines: END TO ELITE RULE!

The masses will march to the streets tomorrow not as canon fodders of warring elites but as a force for structural change. We demand the legitimate call of ousting the illegitimate political leaders - GMA and Noli - now holding office in Malacanang! Laban ito ng masa tungo sa isang transitional revolutionary government!

I understand the in the ultimate sense the leftist movement does not recognize the Constitution and the system in place because they see them as instruments of the elite and the bourgeoise in oppressing the working class.

However the glaring absence of a credible working class (that is, composed of blue *and* white collar workers as well as peasants) always gives doubt as to who really drives these protests.

I have to express my disgust that the left outwardly joins the current opposition, in that the ideals of both parties are not only contradictory, but absolutely opposite.

The chants of "transitional government" also sounds too much like "you should put us [the left] in power!"

Thus, my disillusionment with this current fiasco.

Things like this: http://kapenilattex.blogspot.com/2005/07/cash-coupons.html just make me more disillusioned.

An online acquaintance (and columnist of The Manila Standard/Today) has a different proposal; a new twist to the parliamentary solution which seeks to remove the oligarchial nature of the Philippine political environment

It is promising, but sort of leans to the ideal. I was wondering if you could give your comments on her proposal.

Her blog entry on the matter:

The article at it appears in the Manila Standard Online:

Hi Jon!

Thank you for your long, thoughtful comment. I, however, am afraid you are misinformed of the left ideal in general and the call for an end to elite rule in particular. But I am even more afraid that you tend to be reactionary in the sense that you are entirely uncritical of the capability of the incumbent government to launch black propaganda in advancing its self-serving cause of maintaining its power, and of the shrewdness and heartlessness of both the elites and counter-elites in exploiting the masses in pursuit of their own selfish interests.

I'll try to get back to you soon. Meanwhile, I hope the following links help you understand the issues at hand:

Bonn,

I acknowledge that many times my sin is that of generalization --- I really tend to view the leftists as one big group as opposed to the real outset wherein there are two. Of course, the leftists I tend to argue against are those that adhere to the old Maoist-Stalinist methodology.

It is funny though that we both quote Sassy Lawyer in this matter. :p

I will appreciate greatly a discourse (even just a short one) of how one defines the elite, the current composition and ideology/ideologies of the counter-elite (or the different groups of such), and how this will affect the general effort to improve the current political scenario.

And as always, thanks for the effort to enlighten the misinformed middle class like myself. ;)
